INFO

With a focus this year on Eastern voices, this Fabbrica Europa presentation represents an ongoing collaboration with CPR Wales Giving Voice project.
Giving Voice is an established international event which has the aim of advancing the appreciation and understanding of the voice in performance through practical research and a celebration of its many and varied manifestations throughout time and culture.

Victoria Hanna was born into a very spiritual, orthodox family in Jerusalem, in which the language and elocution of prayer were valuated above all other arts. Much of the inspiration for the current work comes from Jerusalem itself, where the overlapping of past and present, ancient and modern is at its very core. She enacts in her work a unique presentation of sacred Hebrew texts, prayers and spirituals, in an entirely modern context that integrates theatre, music, spoken word and video.
Hanna deals with language and letters as a creative force. Examples of such texts are the Book of Creation (attributed to Abraham) and the writings of the Rabbi Abraham Aboulafia. The work will set these texts against a modern backdrop; their organic juxtaposition emerging from structures and codes inherent in the text that are reminiscent of the modern, hi-tech world. Her work also integrates translations and original texts in languages such as English, Persian, Czech, Arabic and Gibberish.
She has performed internationally since the age of 20, and has featured in international festivals in India, Germany, Brazil, USA, Berlin, Ukraine, Mongolia, Argentina, Mexico, Czech Republic, Poland, Sweden, Japan and more. She collaborated with international artists such as Mariana Sadovska, Eugene Hutz, Barbatuques, Frank London, Balkan Beat Box, Grundik and Slava and more.

Hanna is blessed with one of those voices that demands full attention, holding audiences rapt with her acrobatic voice and leaving mouths agape.
(Time Out New York)

It’s a voice that knocks you out entirely, ripping you from your surroundings to submerge you in a new place. Victoria Hanna has one of those voices. Hypnotizing international audiences with her blend of pulsing vocals and spoken word performance.
