{"id":52351,"date":"2024-07-20T13:53:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-20T13:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fabbricaeuropa.net\/?p=52351"},"modified":"2026-10-09T11:13:58","modified_gmt":"2026-10-09T11:13:58","slug":"er-gao-wax-patterns-in-motion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fabbricaeuropa.net\/en\/er-gao-wax-patterns-in-motion\/","title":{"rendered":"Er Gao<br>WAX &#8211; Patterns in Motion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>as part of <strong>Oltre le mura \/ Beyond the walls<\/strong><br \/>\na Fabbrica Europa project for Autunno Fiorentino 2026<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since 2025, Chinese choreographer <strong>Er Gao<\/strong> has been developing the research and performance project <strong>WAX \u2013 Intimacy, Solidarity and Love Among Marginalized Communities<\/strong>, which originated from his observation of the African community in Xiaobei, Guangzhou, and the community of elderly women in Shunde.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Starting from the history of the renowned <strong>wax fabric<\/strong>, a material that has over time become an icon of connection between Indonesia, Africa, Europe and China, <strong>WAX<\/strong> develops a research process intertwining dance, visual practices and the collective construction of space, exploring the dynamics of cultural exchange and transformation through the body and the languages of performing arts.<br \/>\nThe fabric thus becomes a symbolic and narrative element, as well as a tool for reflecting on the circulation of cultures, the mobility of people, and cultural transformations in the contemporary world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In Florence, <strong>WAX &#8211; Patterns in Motion (Trame in movimento)<\/strong>, curated by Fabrizio Massini, theatre producer and sinologist at the University of Vienna, takes shape through <strong>meetings<\/strong>, <strong>lectures<\/strong> and <strong>shared workshop practices<\/strong> with local communities of artists and citizens, intertwining body, movement and visual arts and leading to the <strong>final performance \/ installation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The project opens with an audition to select the participants in the workshop that Er Gao will subsequently lead, culminating in two performances open to the public.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Er Gao<\/strong> (He Qi Wo) is a Chinese choreographer and interdisciplinary artist, born in 1985 in Yangjiang, Guangdong. A graduate of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, in 2007 he founded the Ergao Dance Production Group (EDPG), through which he develops a practice that intertwines dance, performance, video and community-based practices.<br \/>\nHis practice explores themes of identity, gender and culture, using the community as a working method and favouring participatory and immersive processes.
