What does a poet take from the poet he translates? In what form and to what extent does poetry regenerate in the transition to another language? Two great protagonists of Italian literature, Valerio Magrelli and Vivian Lamarque, poets and translators, will try to answer through conversations and readings from 7pm until the last light of day.

Translator and essayist, Valerio Magrelli teaches French literature at the University in Cassino. He wrote Ora serrata retinae (Feltrinelli, 1980), Nature e venature (Mondadori, 1987), Esercizi di tipologia (Mondadori, 1992). The three collections, enriched by successive poems, were then published in the volume Poesie (1980-1992) e altre poesie (Einaudi, 1996). With Einaudi he also published Didascalie per la lettura di un giornale (1999) and Disturbi del sistema binario (2006). Among his critical essays, Profilo del dada (Lucarini 1990, Laterza 2006), La casa del pensiero. Introduzione all’opera di Joseph Joubert (Pacini 1995, 2006), Vedersi vedersi. Modelli e circuiti visivi nell’opera di Paul Valéry (Einaudi 2002, L’Harmattan 2005) and Nero sonetto solubile. Dieci autori riscrivono una poesia di Baudelaire (Laterza 2010). He directed for Einaudi the trilingual series “Scrittori tradotti da scrittori” (Writers translated by writers). Among his prose works: Nel condominio di carne (Einaudi 2003), La vicevita. Treni e viaggi in treno (Laterza, 2009), Addio al calcio (Einaudi, 2010), Il Sessantotto realizzato da Mediaset (Einaudi, 2011), Geologia di un padre (Einaudi, 2013). In 2014 he published the collection of poems Il sangue amaro (Einaudi). In 2002 the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei awarded him the Feltrinelli Prize for Italian poetry.

Writer, poet and translator, Vivian Lamarque, born in Tesero (Trento), lives in Milan where she has taught for several years. She wrote Teresino (Soc. di poesia & Guanda, 1981, Viareggio Opera Prima Prize), Il Signore d’oro (Crocetti, 1986 e 1997), Poesie dando del lei (Garzanti, 1989), Il Signore degli Spaventati (Pegaso, 1992, Montale Prize), Una quieta polvere (Mondadori, 1996), Poesie. 1972-2002 (Mondadori, 2002), Poesie di ghiaccio (Einaudi Ragazzi, 2004), Poesie per un gatto (Mondadori, 2007), Poesie della notte (Rizzoli, 2009), La gentilèssa (Stampa, 2009). She is also author of several fairytale books, obtaining, among others, the Rodari Prize (1997) and the Andersen Prize (2000). She translated Valéry, Baudelaire, Prévert, La Fontaine, Céline, Grimm, Wilde.
