The characteristic of the rhizome to independently develop new plants even in unfavorable conditions has suggested some thinkers to use it as a metaphor to symbolize some concepts.
In particular, Carl Gustav Jung has adopted the term ‘rhizome’ with regard to the invisible nature of life, which mostly develops underground while what appears lasts only one season, and then ceases, without the vital flow being definitively interrupted.
The metaphor of the rhizome was then adopted by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari to define a philosophical research that proceeds by multiples, without well-defined entry or exit points and without internal hierarchies.

These concepts and the relationship between sound and environment are at the centre of Rizotronica, a project that involves the students of the Electronic Music School of the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini in Florence in creating a installation/performance sound production.
