Five female dancers perform in forty different dresses – evening dresses, wedding dresses, night dresses, casual dresses and ball dresses. Sequined, long, puffy, fitted and oversized. Dresses that fly, that shine, that burst, that spin, that trail on the ground or fall.
On stage, there are five of to wear these dresses. Five who sweat because they are alive.
After a trilogy in three short forms, Leïla Ka creates her first group piece, Maldonne, a highly evocative piece that explores the fragilities, rebellion and multiple identities that co-exist within femininity.

With this performance, Leïla Ka presents sisterhood in its most obvious form and pays due tribute to the struggles that have seen women as protagonists. A fitting tribute to the battles that have been fought and those that remain to be fought. An artistically and symbolically brilliant work.

Leïla Ka began her journey as a dance artist with urban dances which she quickly crossed with other influences. Having performed in Maguy Marin’s May B, she draws from this experience a danced theatricality that she integrates into her choreographic research. She started choreographing in 2018 when she premiered her  first solo, Pode Ser, awarded five times internationally and performed more than 140 times since its creation. She has also created a duet C’est toi qu’on adore (2020) and a second solo piece To cut loose (2022).
Leïla is an associate artist at CENTQUATRE-PARIS, at La Garance – scène nationale de Cavaillon, in long-term residence at Espace 1789 and she was accompanied by the Tremplin network (support for emerging choreographers).
In 2022, she received the Choreographic Revelation Award from the Syndicats de la critique with To cut loose and with Bouffées, a short piece for five dancers, she won the first prize at the international competition Danse Élargie of Théâtre de la Ville de Paris. Her most recent work is Maldonne, created for five female performers.
