Pesadilla means Nightmare.
Do your nightmares start with your eyes open or shut?
Is it possible to read someone’s dreams?
Do your nightmares end with your eyes open or shut?
Is someone unable to sleep capable of staying awake?
What stops us from sleeping?
What stops us from staying awake?
The same thing, perhaps?
We have all daydreamt; are we sure
we have not lived with our eyes shut?
The research starts from a naturalist situation, but pushes its rules out towards an unexpected dimension. One works to escape from the frames, faithful to the initial intention, I try to unsettle the usual perspective until I transmit a loss of customary references, and the acceptance of a hijacking of the real towards an absurd reality.
With Pesadilla, I am seeking extremes in the quality of movement, the bodies of cartoon figures with their inevitable propulsions, a sporting physicality mingled with the body’s limitations, the abstract lines within daily gestuality. I seek how to make silence appear and leave space to the echo created only by the presence of the interpreters on stage.
Piergiorgio Milano
After attending the school of the Flic Circus in Turin, Piergiorgio Milano moved to France where he studied at the School of Circus Arts Le Lido in Toulouse. Meanwhile his interest increased in the physical theatre, the theatre of gesture and dance. Later, he has worked with the Slovenian contemporary dance company Fourklore, directed by choreographer Branko Potocan. He also collaborated as a dancer with composer Bruno De Franceschi. He then moved to Amsterdam where he studied choreography at the SNDO School for New Dance Development. At the same time he created the circus theatre company 320CHILI with other Italian performers. In the summer of 2009 he won the Danceweb scholarship from the Vienna Impulstanz festival. He has worked and indeed still collaborates with international artists such as Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, David Zambrano, Raffaella Giordano, Rodrigo Pardo and Roberto Olivan. Among his main projects as a choreographer: Ai Migranti, winner of the Equilibrio award 2010; the solo Denti, winner of the Special Prize of the Jury at the Mas Dansa (Spain), the Baltic Dance Competition Award (Poland) and the Tuscan Dance Factory Award of Fabbrica Europa; Do you love me?, duo created with Florencia Demestri for the Festival Deltebre Dansa (Spain).
