A PATH OF MUSIC AND WORDS ALONG THE VIA DEGLI DEI
Dei suoni i passi draws sonic paths along the ridge of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, between Florence and Bologna, inviting a rediscovery of the territory through encounters with art, literature, and music.
Audiences are guided on a journey of exploration through the places hosting the initiative, in close synergy with local associations. Moving beyond the logic of major urban centers, the project embraces a mindful, ethical approach to uncover lesser-known ecosystems.
This initiative weaves together music and landscape to connect, uncover, and narrate the inner territories of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. Starting in Bologna and arriving in Florence, the project traces an ideal constellation of stops along the 120 kilometers separating the two cities — a distance easily covered in just over half an hour by high-speed train, but also traversable on foot. The route follows the ancient Roman paving stones of the Flaminia Militare, winding through centuries-old beech and chestnut forests, offering a slower alternative to the pace of everyday life and a chance to see the world from new perspectives.
A key element of the project is guiding participants in a deeper understanding of the spaces that form its backdrop, highlighting what each locality can offer in collaboration with the hosting municipalities.
This year’s journey spans from Bologna’s iconic porticos to the enchanting woods of Castiglione dei Pepoli; from Firenzuola, with the Romanesque Pieve di San Giovanni a Cornacchiaia and the small theatre of Pagliana, to Barberino di Mugello and its Teatro Corsini, all the way to Scarperia and its 14th-century landmarks, and finally, to Florence.
It’s a proposal designed for walkers and cyclists along the route, but also for local residents and anyone who wishes to reach the performance sites directly.
Dei suoni i passi is a project curated by Fondazione Fabbrica Europa, made possible with the support of the Region of Tuscany and the Metropolitan City of Florence, in collaboration with the Municipality of Florence, the Municipality of Barberino di Mugello, the Municipality of Scarperia e San Piero, the Municipality of Firenzuola, Touring Club Italiano, Pro Loco Scarperia, Festival Crinali, Toscana Produzione Musica, Appennino Sound, Catalyst, Librerie Coop Zanichelli, Teatro La Scaletta, and Rifugio Digitale. Special thanks to the Union of Municipalities of Mugello.

“LA VIA DEGLI DEI – SULLE ANTICHE STRADE ROMANE DA BOLOGNA A FIRENZE” (Touring Editore)
Adonis and Venus. Ancient pagan deities of Greek mythology come back to life in the place names of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, among valleys and mountains that, for some years now, have been crossed by one of the most popular hiking routes in Italy. What draws walkers is certainly the chance to follow on foot a beautiful itinerary tracing Roman roads through little-known places with a long history. Roberta Ferraris, environmental hiking guide, has been involved in sustainable tourism since 1994 and collaborates with various publishers as the author of travel and hiking guidebooks.
