Sang Bleu is an exploration about the body and its relationship to its material components. Clusters of flesh and bacteria that interpenetrate, devour each other, and decompose.
Whether it is through death, illness or infection, the artists propose a vision of degeneration that divorced from finality or the annihilation of the body.
Dany Leclerc and Andréane Desjardins have already collaborated on the creation of Mange-Moi presented in Tangente (2014) and La Chapelle (2015). From this first meeting, these two artists realized their common interest for the dramaturgical research of the “dancing body” and the “circus body”, as well as a need to question the conventions established in their respective disciplines. Therefore, a desire to continue this collaboration leads them into a process of research and creation of a hybrid duet between dance and contemporary contortion.
Andréane Leclerc, choreographer and director, is interested in the performative scene, dramaturgy and the search for a “circus body”. A graduate of the National Circus School (2001), she conceives contortion as a malleable body technique capable of generating a world of sensations and mental imagery beyond the spectacular. Interested in sensation rather than sensationalism, she created conceptual pieces in 2009 (Di (x), InSuccube, Bath House, Cherepaka, Mange- Moi, The Whore of Babylon) and continues to work for various projects. In 2013, she obtained a Master’s degree in Dramaturgy of Prowess from the Theater Department at UQAM and then founded the Nadère arts vivants company where she took on the artistic direction.
Dany Desjardins, choreographer and dancer, has begun his artistic approach through drawing and theatre. After studying visual arts, he completed a dance program in Drummondville and continued his studies at the Montreal Contemporary Dance School. Since 2007, Dany has worked for several companies, including Daniel Léveillé Danse, PPS Danse, GAG, CMC, and collaborated with choreographers Catherine Gaudet, George Stamos, David Pressault and Katie Ward. He created the pieces Shitoi & Dordur (2007), All villains have a broken heart (2008), On Air (2009) as well as POW WOW (2011) and Winnin’ (2014), both presented at La Chapelle. His work has also been shown at Usine C, Tangent, Neighborhoods Dances, Succession View, OFFTA, Short & Sweet and Piss in the Pool.
