INTERFERENCIAS - TOY BOX

INFO

The project started in 2007 from collaboration with the Teatro Mercat de les Flors of Barcelona, the Estruch – Centre for Stage Arts of Sabadell, and the High School of Cinematography of Catalonia to develop new contents of audiovisual creation.
The artists met for the first time in April at Armunia at the Castello Pasquini of Castiglioncello, where they carried out a creative residency period.
Interferencias – Toy Box is an original creative product: a hybrid between film image and live performance, a melting pot of word, gesture, movement and architectural space, a project oriented to the creation of new contents for the purpose of getting cinema narrative to dialogue with new dramaturgy and contemporary dance.
The use of non-theatrical texts, the development of scenes performed live and scenes reproduced in real or deferred time, the use of several television cameras at the same time as theatrical action, allow the actors to face two different means of artistic communication, to understand their values completely and to investigate new forms of contamination between languages. The project is intended as a line of research where theatrical conventions are stretched to the utmost in order to trigger a different perception of reality and to alert actors and audiences to new interpretations of the relations between the filmed image and the physicality of the theatre. Interferencias – Toy Box is a platform/show in continuous growth and evolution in which those taking part are able to explore their own backgrounds and those of others and so incorporate new experiences and creation procedures, in order to set up new methodologies of exchange and artistic production. A platform-show that will become a choral work where all the creators from different disciplines and different countries are able to diffuse and transmit experiences and ideas.
The theme is Violence: towards ideas, towards the word, towards the body, towards space, towards territory. “Seeing a murder on television can help work off one’s antagonisms. And if you haven’t any antagonisms, the commercials will give you some” (Alfred Hitchcock).
Force, movement, hate, energy, dismay, racism, exclusion, anxiety, disenchantment, conduct, phobia, power, rage, arbitrariness, development, perversion, demolition, impulse, battle, wisdom, these are the cues for the creation of non-narrative textual structures; these cues are at the roots of works such as El pompelmo by Yoko Ono, the Seven Meditations on Sadomasochism by the Living Theatre and the essays by Michel Foucault. In nearly all fields of our everyday action we can find sufficient material to work on.
The collective use of the digital camera makes it possible to be agile and direct and to work instantaneously during shooting, creating a space of interferences. The scenarios of the shooting are the city and the stage space of Fabbrica Europa.
The work in progress foresees realising two stage moments that join video and performance, a choreographic moment, two clips of audiovisual creation, a documentary reflecting social and work dynamics and showing the development of ideas during the 15 days of collective creation. The purpose is to encourage a horizontal attitude in artistic creation;, therefore different ideas and suggestions will be accepted, to be developed into real dossiers, fruit of the collective work of all those taking part in Toy Box.
