STIAMO LAVORANDO PER VOI (ci scusiamo per il disagio) – We’re working for you (sorry for the inconvenience) – simulates an urban construction site that exists only to be a construction site.

Road signs, orange stripes, workers eating sandwiches, old men watching the construction site, and the construction site that breathes and changes in time and space, expands, shifts and displaces limits and boundaries that profile its presence (choreography of a place) and when it reaches its full form… disappears.

Construction sites, scaffolding, towering cranes, steel scaffold tubes, pastel-colored containers and tanks have now become part of the ordinary urban landscape. These functional sculptures are dis-perceived, or otherwise, not accepted as an integral part of the architectural complex in which we live; rather, they are often seen as clutter and obstacles to vision, deprivation of something that actually belongs to us. Construction sites are inaccessible places within which everything is secret, an omitted space-time dimension, a fragment of life, of a neighborhood and its inhabitants, that remains hidden and unknown.

Simulating a construction site means proposing to reactivate the perception of the surrounding, which we experience as an assumed background to which we are accustomed and educated. It means instituting a Place, taking space and inhabiting it, changing its meaning and content while keeping the container, form and aesthetics identical.

Claudio Larena is an artist, craftsman and performer spanning between the languages of installation, dance and performance, in contemporary theatrical, performance and visual art contexts.
