ICE_SCREAM is a duet of dance and voice, an absurd, psychedelic journey through the play of emotions.
The title, through a linguistic pun resembling a trompe-l’œil, contains the opposites that shape the work’s dramaturgy: ICE evokes emotional freezing, formal and expressive melting, and the questions that arise from or lead to this fusion; SCREAM embodies the emotional charge at the heart of the piece.
In a hyper-technological society, where we oscillate between gaudy emotional exhibition and its opposite (emotional numbness as defense) I ask whether an ecological perspective can also embrace this emotional dimension. I find one in the concept of an Ecology of Emotions, inspired by Gregory Bateson’s Ecology of Mind.
The work is an inquiry into laughter, crying, and the instability of bodily, emotional, and sonic states held within and between these two peaks. A research that speaks to the fragility and at the same time the strength of the human being who is unafraid to face itself.
