L’altro Hotel by Michele Di Stefano brings together, in a lucid and amusing way, fragments of a vast collection of voice memos collected by him from around the world as a catalogue of localized sounds, precise moments of personal experience.

The presentation of the record, curated by Michele Di Stefano, will be an informal opportunity to discover this artistic object through sounds excerpts and the story of its creation.

Michele Di Stefano is a choreographer, performer and founder of mk, a group active in the international scene since 2000 with a vast corpus of shows, choreographic environments and evolutionary systems based on dynamic research, travel literature, sound and meteorology. Central figure of Italian dance, he is considered an explorer that constantly redefines the relationship between individual projects and the general horizon of movements. Besides live performances, he has an intense activity of lecturing, workshops and experimental proposals including the Balinese Dance Platform at the Santarcangelo Festival (2014-15), the projects for the Venice Biennale Danza 2013-15, research activities for the IUAV University in Venice and Mendrisio Architecture University in Switzerland. He was associated artist at the Teatro di Roma (2020-21) with the project Oceano Indiano, and at Milan Triennale (2022-24). He has received numerous awards for his activity (Silver Lion for innovation in dance at the Venice Biennale 2014, Ubu Award 2019, Danza&Danza Award 2018 and 2020, Ubu Special Award 2021) and choreographic commissions from Aterballetto, Korean National Contemporary Dance Company, Nuovo Balletto di Toscana and the Ballet de Lorraine. He was a consultant for the dance program GRANDI PIANURE of the Teatro di Roma (2018-22), and initiator of the performance cycles TROPICI (Angelo Mai Rome 2013-18) and BUFFALO (Palazzo delle Esposizioni Rome, MACRO Rome and Museo Nazionale Romano 2021-24). Since 2025 he is part of the curatorial team of Short Theatre Festival in Rome. Di Stefano also published the book Autonomous agents and multi-agent systems (Quodlibet 2012) together with Margherita Morgantin, a text of choreographic instructions and climate reports, and the LP L’altro Hotel (Xong collection – artist records, Xing 2025).
Xong is the name of the collection produced by Xing, a vinyl-only record label of works by both Italian and international personalities linked to the variegated worlds of live performativity. The collection explores a geography of artists who present this sonic field as a platform to expand their staged worlds. “The space of the record” is given focus and amplifies their poetics as both a sonic and physical phenomenon. Xong is a unique project that draws out divergent understandings of the performative and live arts, beyond genre and intersecting between different practices. Xong collects a series of original creations that constitute an expanded program. Each physical record is a numbered edition on white vinyl hosting the solidification of the gesture. A wave upon wave, a series of “Music-Non-Music” to actualize both the artists and listeners imagination.
