Fabbrica Europa presents at PARC the screening of Hometown Mutonia, a documentary film by ZimmerFrei that tells the story of the Mutonia camp, a place that for over 30 years has become a symbol of creativity, resistance, and community in Santarcangelo di Romagna.
Founded in 1990 by the Mutoid Waste Company, Mutonia is much more than just a physical space: it is a symbol of an art that does not conform to imposed rules, but continually seeks to renew itself.
As declared by the mayor of Santarcangelo, Filippo Sacchetti, Mutonia “has not been a ‘guest’ in our city for 35 years, but is part of Santarcangelo. It is one of the souls of the community, one of the realities that make us and the city what we are.”
However, for years its survival has been under threat. After an initial demolition threat in 2013, the local community and authorities have fought to have Mutonia recognized as a cultural park, beyond its residential function.
Now, a ruling by the Council of State is once again questioning the Mutoid’s continued presence in Santarcangelo.
The screening of Hometown Mutonia is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of this place, not only for Santarcangelo but for contemporary culture. In a time of political and social uncertainties, Mutonia represents an example of how art can be an act of resistance and transformation.
