Criticism as storytelling and testimony. Criticism as synthesis and analysis, as translation. Criticism as judgment, as questioning — of the performance event, the world around it, the self — and as reflection. Criticism, above all, as an act of responsibility.
This workshop aims to explore the various facets of contemporary theatre and dance criticism through open, horizontal discussions, sharing theoretical materials and journalistic practices to help participants navigate the contemporary performing arts landscape. The seminar-style meetings seek to provide each participant with a compass, so that their journey around the stage can be more aware and freer.

UNA BUSSOLA PER LO SGUARDO is Fabbrica Europa’s pilot project dedicated to those wishing to explore critical thinking in our time through artistic languages.
For three days, participants will engage in training, shared reflection, and attend performances, talks, and workshops of the Fabbrica Europa Festival. An opportunity to intertwine perspectives and deepen contemporary practices together.
The workshop is led and curated by Alessandro Iachino, theatre and dance critic, educator, and editorial member of the magazine «Stratagemmi – Prospettive Teatrali», and Stefano Tomassini, associate professor at IUAV University of Venice, specialized in choreographic studies and dance critic for «Teatro e critica».
Together, they will stimulate participants’ thinking by presenting various approaches and visions through which critical thought daily engages with the artistic reality.
The program will also offer the opportunity to meet Fabbrica Europa Festival protagonists, fostering a dialogue that encourages the exchange of ideas and perspectives, enriching reflection on cultural and artistic dynamics.
