aimed at: 18/21 year olds enrolled in the Lapislazzulo Theater Course at Il Lavoratorio

During the workshop sessions, participants will have the opportunity to explore theatrical art as a means of personal and collective expression. Choral acting and storytelling exercises will be proposed, allowing a creative elaboration of one’s memories and reflections.

On Sunday 24 November, at the end of the performance, Il Lavoratorio will host a meeting with critics and scholars Alessandro Iachino and Rodolfo Sacchettini.

Muoio come un paese (I die like a country) is a walking performance by the Italian-Swedish performer and theater director Gemma Hansson Carbone. This project, which crosses archeology, hiking, performing arts and poetry is structured around a text written by the contemporary poet Dimitris Dimitriadis.
Following the Angel through the streets of the city, we are invited to take a journey into memory and take our place in the inexorable flow of history.

The project
Muoio come un paese is supported by the Movin’Up Spettacolo-Performing Arts 2022/2023 programme by MIC Italian Ministry of Culture and GAI – Associazione per il Circuito dei Giovani Artisti Italiani together with the Puglia Region – TPP Teatro Pubblico Pugliese and with GA/ER – Associazione Giovani Artisti dell’Emilia Romagna.


Gemma Hansson Carbone is an Italian-Swedish performer and director who has developed her artistic training between Italy, Sweden and the UK. She has met and worked with masters such as Theodoros Terzopoulos, Chiara Guidi, Romeo Castellucci, Michail Marmarinos, Rodrigo Garcia, Tomi Janesic, Pavol Liska and Kelly Copper (Nature Theater of Oklahoma), Julie Stanzak, Dead Center and Elli Papakonstantinou. In 2015 she founded the Naprawski company in Gothenburg for which she directed YOU ARE HERE (so don’t take things so seriously) which won the Italian call Movin’Up. In 2017 she debuted with her second direction, GUL – uno sparo nel buio. Since 2018 she has started collaborating with the Stadsteatern of Gothenburg where she worked alongside the artistic director Pontus Stenshäll as assistant director. In 2019, with Riccardo Festa, she created TU ovvero chi è questa stronza?, a show based on the novel Melampus by Ennio Flaiano and Federico Fellini’s masterpiece “8 e ½”. She collaborates as an actress and dramaturg with the international company ODC Ensemble directed by Greek director Elli Papakonstantinou. In 2022 and 2023 she is resident director for Eleusis 2023 – Capital of Culture.
