Fire emerges from a small point of friction. A catharsis resulting from the presence of excess energy – causing a collapse of the totality. From chaos and disorder emerges a new structure or way of perceiving.

Marcela Giesche is the founder of the Lake Studios Berlin, a multifunctional artistic residency space and former carpentry, where she met Monica Gentile four years ago. In this space the practical and artistic meet daily, laying the foundation for a constant exchange of inspiration between life and the creative processes. Marcela and Monica spent much time sharing artistic visions, movement practices, dance trainings, and curating events/performances. Over time the desire to collaborate artistically arose from two contrasting interests and affinities. Marcela has a strong practical sense in life, she loves building, adjusting, finding solutions, making order and construction, while Monica finds pleasure in destruction, desintegration, and taking things apart: both are processes of transformation – part of the same creative process. This is where they found a meeting point. They work on blurring the defining line between construction and destruction – realizing that chaos and disorder are necessary to reorganise the space for new growth.
Destruction as an act of creation, creation as an act of destruction.

Monica Gentile, dancer-performer with different experiences in the exploration of movement and research, lives between Italy and Berlin. In 2016 and 2017 she was twice selected as choreographer in residency at Anghiari Dance Hub, where she developed the works Shepherd and Fire of Unknown Origin. In 2016 Shepherd she was in residence also at Ineatro (AMAT Marche) and Sosta Palmizi (Cortona). She was the winner of the first edition of Palco Aperto in 2012, at the Pim Off in Milan, with Minimal Dance. She trained and worked with several choreographers including Anna Albertarelli (Gohatto and Vi-Kap), Simona Bertozzi, Virgilio Sieni, Michele di Stefano, Sonia Brunelli , Keith Hennessy, Julien Hamilton, Yoshiko Chuma. She was finalist at the GD’A Emilia award in 2011 as an interpreter of Garage kit by Francesca Burzacchini. She studied butoh dance with Yoshito Ohno and Atsushi Takenouchi. Since 2015 she lives and works at Lake Studios in Berlin, where she continues her research as a choreographer and teaches yoga and dance.
Marcela Giesche graduated in 2006 with BFA in Dance at Ohio State University and Codarts, Rotterdam. Since then she has been a freelance dancer and choreographer working with several dance companies and directors across Europe, including Neuer Tanz (VA Wölfl), Thomas Ostermeier and Deja Donne, and others. Her works include Sacre (awarded at the Hau Berlin), left I – right I (with Sonya Levin), Selfportrait24 and exFolia (with Andy Moor and Yannis Kyriakides). She continues her search for movement and choreographic forms through her activities of creation, performance and teaching in Berlin and internationally. She also founded and is the artistic director of the research and dance residence Lake Studios Berlin.

platform A35 develops in the new space of Fabbrica Europa, PARC ex Scuderie Granducali in Florence, an unconventional place.
The project is based on the idea of presenting young choreographers, Italian and not only, whose research shows new creative processes, but also the changing society that is necessarily reflected in them.
