This new creation by the Moroccan choreographer Bouchra Ouizguen is in the form of a journey in the Aïta culture through dance and music.
It is a tribute to these women who, escaping from the closed world of rural traditions of their country, have courageously chosen to work with art.
The way towards the freedom of the body
Setting out from them, their bodies, their history, trying to move towards unknown routes, theirs and mine, becoming susceptible to amazement. They lead me, I lead them, we let ourselves be led towards an encounter that becomes more and more vital each time.
My approach was first of all to convince them to dance something different with me because their bodies have extraordinary potentials: you may think that a woman, at the age of fifty, no longer uses her sensuality to say things, whereas in them this word has not lost its significance as every evening they perform in cabarets in front of men who expect this type of visual excitement, by now codified.
As for myself, in the study of contemporary dance, I have found myself undertaking a long journey: I have travelled thousands of kilometres to learn, when in fact, at my side, other women could have transmitted to me something so evident already: the road towards the freedom of the body.
