A young man breaks into the Prime Minister’s home, taking his wife and their Latvian housekeeper hostage. Although the situation contains magical and messianic elements, everything unfolds within an ordinary domestic setting: peppers are being cooked, melon liqueur is poured, a cardboard box needs to be opened. Yet from this everyday reality, an agreement may emerge that has the power to alter the fate of the world.

The play explores macroeconomics, exposing how the wealth of the few is built upon the exploitation of the many, and how the State becomes complicit in sustaining this system of speculation. It reflects on communism and on the idea of a Jubilee capable of cancelling all debts, as was practiced thousands of years ago in Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt whenever a new king or pharaoh ascended the throne.

Capitalism appears to have reached a terminal stage, surviving only by fuelling artificial desires while deepening inequality and oppression. But perhaps this outcome is not inevitable. Perhaps another future can still be imagined.

CapoTrave is the theatre company founded and led by Lucia Franchi and Luca Ricci, who are also the founders and artistic directors of Kilowatt Festival.
CapoTrave’s work has received several major awards, including the ETI Award – Il debutto di Amleto for La signorina Ida (2002), the Giovani Artisti Award at Teatro Libero di Palermo for Felicità (2003), and the I Teatri del Sacro Award for Lourdes (2015). Their productions have been presented in more than 800 performances at festivals, theatres, and venues throughout Italy.
Their previous play, Le Volpi, was a finalist and runner-up for the Ubu Prize in the category of Best New Italian Play. In June 2026, Cue Press published a volume collecting their four most recent plays, including their latest work, Bandiera.
