Between Me and P. rises from the strong need to take back hold of a true family story. Pietro disappeared voluntarily in 1987 at the age of 22, leaving behind no traces. After twenty- five years Filippo, his younger brother, started a long research aimed at approaching to his figure and understanding what brought him to the decision to disappear. The research is an attempt to cast light on a silent and pervasive absence, and its scenic elaboration is a chance to tell a story that speaks deeply to our individual and collective present.
Through half-light and the projector’s light Between Me and P. creates a dialogue between the visual and audio materials of an archive, the video processing by the artist and his scenic presence. Filippo sits behind a desk and operates on the computer, the scanner and on the materials contained in a big folder, while the audience follows the narration through the projection which reproduces the computer screen. It shows texts being typed, windows of the digital archive, video and audio files that contain pictures taken by Pietro, testimonies given by friends and family members, footage and editings by the artist. A picture of Pietro is outlined step by step, ajar aspects of the story come out and his decision to leave everything behind becomes readable.
Throughout the performace Filippo sets on the ground objects coming from the archive: vintage pictures, books and other materials are used to build the scenic space in which he will try, as the final act of a ritual, to bring back to the body what was long hidden in daily life.
