Within the activities of Anghiari Dance Hub, dance promotion centre, Jonathan Burrows and Matteo Fargion present Speaking Dance.
Jonathan Burrows, one of the leading British choreographers, together with the Italian performer and musician Matteo Fargion, created a duet in which with extreme precision and poetry they devote to the the idea of dance that they describe and that you can hear, but never see.
Burrows and Fargion describe what they do as ’handmade and human- scale’. They build with simple, non-spectacular elements but arrive often at a deceptive virtuosity, radiating delight even as it makes the audience think.
Over the past ten years the two artists have built a body of duets which juxtapose the formality of music composition with a radical and open approach to performance and audiences. Speaking Dance continues their gentle exploration into how the relationship between music and dance is perceived, and the fragile but permeable boundaries between the two worlds.
Their performances are a formal but humourous meditation on the nature of communication, and the relationship between each other and with the audience.
