A meeting with Luca Raineri, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna-Pisa, to talk about Mali.

Luca Raineri is a researcher in security studies. His work is focused on critical studies about security and conflicts. In particular, he investigates the relevant transnational phenomenons as smuggling, crime and terrorism, concerning Africa, European boarders and the general external action of European Union. Since 2010 he has been involved in several mission researches and data collection in the field in Mali, Niger, Tunisia and Senegal. He is an author of many scientific publications on international academic journals, with assistance in volume and monographs- including the recent La Crisi Libica e l’Ordine Internazionale (The Libyan Crisis and the International Order), (ed. Carocci, 2022).
He graduated in political theory at the parisienne École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in 2008, he has been a Pensionnaire Étranger at the École Normale Supérieure (2009). He also attended a Master in Human Rights and Conflicts Management (2011) and a PhD in Global Politics and Human Rights at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa (2016).
He has been a member of the Oslo Research School on peace and conflict (2014-2016) and a visiting researcher at the Universitat Autonoma of Madrid (2017). Rainieri has also worked as advisor for many research centers and international organizations (governmental and non) which work on peace building, security and development with a particular focus on Western Africa.
He recently published for the Italian publishing house Il Mulino, together with Edoardo Baldaro, Jihad in Africa. Terrorismo e controterrorismo nel Sahel (Jihad in Africa. Terrorism and Counterterrorism in Sahel).
