SHIFTING LATITUDES is a dance and music performance inspired by the metaphor of parallels, explored through geographical, cultural, and anthropological dimensions.
The project stems from a true geographical coincidence: Tortosa in Catalonia and Altamura in Puglia, the birthplaces of choreographer and dancer Roberto Olivan and musician Pino Basile, are located at the same latitude, 40.81° North. From these two distant yet aligned points, the performers observe the world through their own cultural, social, and emotional lenses. Although separated by geography, they are intrinsically connected by a shared latitude, history, and human experience. On stage, distance dissolves as parallel lives intersect through sound, movement, and presence.
The performance does not follow a linear narrative, but unfolds like a living encounter. Improvisation becomes dialogue, rhythm conveys memory, and movement traces geography. The performers do not seek to merge their differences; On the contrary, they allow them to coexist, echo, and sometimes collide, revealing unexpected harmonies.
In this new version, SHIFTING LATITUDES becomes a trio with the addition of French dancer Clémentine Telesfort. Her physical language and cultural background introduce a third axis not tied to the same parallel, but which intersects, questions, and transforms it.
This shift transforms the original duality into a dynamic constellation, opening the work to a reflection on contemporary Europe as a space of layered identities, movement, and a constant negotiation between roots and transformation.
Roberto Olivan is an internationally acclaimed dancer, choreographer and artistic director. Trained at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona and at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels, he began his professional career with the renowned ROSAS company directed by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and has also worked with artists such as Robert Wilson, Tom Jansen and Josse de Pauw. In 2001, he founded his own company, ROPA / Roberto Olivan Performing Arts, through which he has developed an internationally recognised artistic career distinguished by a unique, daring and constantly evolving physical language.
He is the founder and artistic director of Vertebra Dansa, the international contemporary dance and circus festival formerly known as Deltebre Dansa. He is also the founder of L’Obrador Espai de Creació, a centre dedicated to the promotion, research and development of contemporary performing arts and movement-based practices.
Throughout his career, he has created performances, led workshops, and developed artistic projects around the world, collaborating with dance companies, universities, conservatories, and international arts institutions. His work has received numerous awards and accolades.
Clémentine Telesfort is a French dance artist, choreographer, and teacher, based in Barcelona renowned for her engaging stage presence and innovative approach to movement. Trained at Trinity Laban in London and subsequently a member of the Verve Postgraduate Company in Leeds, where she received the Outstanding Achievement Award, she has worked with internationally renowned companies including Panama Pictures, Guy Nader & Maria Campos, Lali Ayguadé, Roser López Espinosa. In 2021, she co-founded the company Clémentine & Lisard with Lisard Tranis, creating original works and commissioned pieces for festivals, conservatories, and professional programs worldwide. Deeply committed to teaching and research, her work bridges creation, research, and education.
Born in Zurich in 1969, Pino Basile is a percussionist and performer. A graduated in Percussion Instruments, he has extensive musical experience, including concerts, artistic productions, recording projects, and collaborations in jazz, contemporary, electronic, musical theatre, dance, and contemporary circus. He performs regularly in various countries around the world. As a teacher of Mediterranean frame and friction drums, he is committed to promoting and disseminating these instruments, considered “uncultured,” in as many artistic fields as possible.
