Damnoosh is created out of a need for oneness. It’s a moment of presence in frame of an alternative performance using dance as an object. It brings story-telling, poetry, music & people together to communicate cultural notions from Iran through a simple, daily act of making tea.
Seven herbs, from seven different corners of Iran are chosen and each represent either a personal story or a part of history. Sometimes this history is directly related to the history of dance in Iran. There is little movement happening from the side of the dancer.
In this piece, the dance is more of a concept, an object, often imagined collectively together with the audience who is part of this engaging ritual. My grandmother’s lost dance is slowly remembered towards the end of the piece, as we have all drank the magical tea. Each time the dance is remembered a little more together with the people.
Sina Saberi

Coming from a background in Literature, Teaching and Communication, Sina Saberi discovered performing arts in 2012. He helped establish and co-found an independent dance collective called MaHa alongside seven other young artists in Tehran. MaHa has had several successful dance creations in Iran (including Iran’s first Body Movement Festival in March 2016) some of which currently touring around the world. His artistic journey is inspired much by the urgency of the performing arts in initiating cultural dialogues. In December 2017 he founded KAHKESHĀN; an initiative dedicated to dance. He still works as an adviser for various projects within the dance community of Iran such as MaHa and IPAC (Iranian Performing Arts Community).
