Every day we slaughter our most beautiful impulses. The tender shoots we stifle because we lack the faith to believe in our abilities, in our criterion of truth and beauty.
Henry Miller, Sexus
Born to Lie celebrates the wonder and fragility of being true to oneself.
In an ecosystem inhabited by electronic sounds, coloured lights and plant elements, a human body experiences the arduous search for its own authenticity.
With an ironic voice, Born to Lie dissects social norms and stereotypes in order to subject the ecology of lies under a queer microscope, understood as the structured way in which human beings construct reality and their own paradigms: the need to conceal and mystify events, relationships and identities in order to be accepted in one’s own community.
Born to Lie is the first performative experiment by Three of Pentacles, a three-headed creative synergy born from the encounter between Dj Leblond and the performer Elio Rosalba Bonaccini who, together with Giacomo AG and Max Simonetto/naturaviolenta, were protagonists of the performance Still Lives: Florence by Daniel Kok & Luke George, produced by Fabbrica Europa in 2023.
The experience of Still Lives: Florence prompted the two artists to question what it means to be queer in a context where social categories are predominant and escaping established gender roles is difficult.
Through the encounter between performer and plant presence, Three of Pentacles anchors the roots of a study on the morphology of the nature-culture binomial: where does artifice begin and nature end?
An impassable terrain that Born to Lie explores without instructions, outside of categories, leaving the way open to a question: is lying a shared trap to rewrite reality in a socially acceptable guise, or is it just part of human nature to invent, tell and retell stories?
