IF, IF, IF, THEN is a dance performance for three dancers, created by Jacopo Jenna for different environment.
The choreography aims to culturally re-contextualizing the different grammars of movements, thus producing an abstract form of observation and definition of contemporary dance. The result is a deep stratigraphy of images upon images: one on top of the other, one after the other, they give rise to infinite layers of visual data drawn from the iconographic deposits of our repertoires, archives and, finally yet importantly, our memetic influence.
The body yearns to be presented in a form of the virtual potentiality of innumerable material states, of which only a few come into being or take shape over time through an endlessly re-definable process. The dancers are the heralds of post-modernity and contain a bundled baggage of references, they have an hybrid background from street dance, hip-hop techniques and contemporary dance practices, making it easy for them to take on and move between different approaches and genres, making impossible to find a stable common ground and breathing space.
The dance develops in dialogue with the music of the composer Caterina Barbieri who explores the psychophysical effects of repetition, studying the polyphonic and polyrhythmic potential of sequencers to draw complex geometries in time and space, creating patterns of immense grace inducing a sense of ecstasy and contemplation.
