Carusə | sine Sole sileo by Pierandrea Rosato, presented here in the form of a study, is a solo piece that moves through the much-debated dance of tarantism, but in its status moriendi. Inspired by Ernesto De Martino’s The Land of Remorse and in dialogue with Byung-Chul Han’s The Disappearance of Rituals, the performance explores ritual in its melancholic, exhausted, and residual dimension, culminating in the extreme form of aquatic tarantism, in which the desire for healing could turn into a desire for death.

At the centre of the performance is a young male body: youth understood as porosity, as an intuition not yet domesticated, and as the capacity to resonate with historical-political and affective memories that persist in the present as forms of haunting; masculinity as a displacement of a phenomenon traditionally associated above all with the female body.
The performer moves through states of trance, suspension and melancholy, intertwining his body with children’s and funerary lullabies, and with the only offstage musical presence, Poveri fiori by Francesco Cilea, performed by Montserrat Caballé: a feminine presence that transforms loss into form, in complicity with the ritual’s dying character.

Carusə | sine Sole sileo thus takes shape as the disintegration of a ritual: a young body moves through what has been lost from tarantism, what still persists in the present, and what, in its most extreme form, turns towards its own disappearance.

Pierandrea Rosato is a dancer and choreographer based in Lecce. Graduated in Modern Dance from the Folkwang University of the Arts, he has worked with companies including Tanztheater Wuppertal / Pina Bausch, El Conde de Torrefiel, Gob Squad, FTS, and Zerogrammi.
In 2023 he became an associated artist of Sosta Palmizi and Koreoproject. He was selected for Vetrina della Giovane Danza d’Autore with the solo Infieri, received a research grant from Anghiari Dance Hub, and the Komm Tanz Award by Abbondanza/Bertoni for Light Leaks from a Black Moon.
In 2025 he received the Italian Ministry of Culture Grand Tour grant with the project BACO | by a childlike omnipotence. Recent works include Shining Bruises | a burnout’s dark-love story (finalist at the 2025 Prospettiva Danza e Teatro International Competition) and Carusə | sine Sole sileo (Winner of the IndipenDanse Find Danza & Interagendo Festival 2026 open call).
His research explores hauntology, memory, and power structures through the body as a site of transformation, passage, and embodied resistance.
