Focusing their artistic exchange on Female Gaze and Male Gaze, choreographers and dancers Roberta Racis and Fabio Novembrini investigate questions of the spectator’s gaze and visual pleasure in relation to artistic creation and in relation to the gaze of the assumed audience and aesthetic emotion, considerations and questions they share through their artistic practices and current creations.
Activating gaze is a project, that originated within the CRISOL – creative processes project, which aims at creating a device in which to exchange experiences and share practices between artists.

Roberta Racis is a dancer and choreographer. From 2015 to 2018 she worked for the Balletto di Roma, directed by Roberto Casarotto, dancing in productions by choreographers such as Alessandro Sciarroni, Chris Haring (Liquid Loft), Itamar Serussi Sahar (Batsheva dance company), Paolo Mangiola (Wayne McGregor), Francesca Pennini, Giorgia Nardin. In 2017 she created the solo Borders and became part of the European project “Performing Gender” promoted by Yorkshire Dance Leeds, City of Women a Lubiana, Paso a 2 Certamen Coreografico di Madrid, Theaterfestival Boulevard’s Hertogenbosch, CSC di Bassano and Gender Bender Festival. Her choreographic work Shelter, created with Fabio Novembrini, was selected for the Vetrina della giovane danza d’autore di Anticorpi Xl Network di Ravenna. Since 2018 she has collaborated with Alessandro Sciarroni for the Augusto project and Turning Orlando‘s version. She also collaborates with the choreographers Enzo Cosimi and Francesco Marilungo. In 2019 she is among the founders, authors and performers of the Collettivo Mine, whose first creation, Esercizi per un manifesto poetico, won the 2019 DNAppunti coreografici.

Fabio Novembrini trained at the Scuola del Balletto di Toscana in Florence. In 2015 he was selected for the European Dancing Museums project, dancing his own creations in the most important European museums. In the same year he became one of the dancers of the Balletto di Roma. In 2015 he created his first work, Shelter, together with Roberta Racis. In 2017 he became a Dance Well – movement research for Parkinson teacher. In 2018 he collaborated with the choreographer Sang Jijia in the production Re-Mark and was selected as a performer for “The Cleaner”, the exhibition of works by Marina Abramovic at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence. He also collaborated with Collettivo Cinetico in How to destroy your dance and with Masako Matsushita in Trusted Devices. In 2019 he is the Italian artist chosen for Duo à trois voix / Duetto a tre voci, a research and creation project in partnership between CSC – Bassano del Grappa and Circuit-Est centre chorégraphique Montréal. In 2019 his solo When I was in Stoccolma, selected by the Anticorpi XL network, was presented at the CCDC Dance Festival in Hong Kong. He is one of the members of Collettivo Mine.
